The driver was a 16-year-old teen who was killed in the single-vehicle Mesa crash after being ejected. The paramedics who responded on the scene tried to save the teen but failed. A passenger was seen crawling out of the crashed vehicle. He left the scene on foot but was later found near the area. The passenger who had some minor injuries was an 18-year-old teen.

As per the police investigations, speeding was the cause of the roll over crash. The 16-year-old driver was driving at a high speed eastbound of Covina Street when he lost control of the wheel. It later discovered that the SUV was reported stolen early Saturday.

SUVs and other light vehicles have always been prone to roll over accidents. Alcohol-related fatal crashes reached to 210 while alcohol-related fatalities and injuries were 223 and 3,724 respectively.

Alcohol-impaired drivers are quite common on the roads of Arizona and alcohol-related crashes are one of the major concerns of the both the government and some private organizations when it comes road safety.

2010 Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts Preview

On August 22, 2011 the Arizona Department of Transport released the 2010 Crash Facts Summary. The report revealed that although the total number of vehicle accidents in Arizona has declined. Although there was a decline it was very small, they reported motor vehicle crashes reached 106,177 (compared to 106,767 in 2009). The breakdown of these crashes include 698 fatal crashes (compared to 709 in 2009), 33,195 injury crashes (compared to 33,380 in 2009), and 72,284 property damage only (compared to 72,678 in 2009).

These numbers, despite continuously decreasing over the years, still pose a huge threat not only to the safety of the people but also economic-wise. Did you know that the state-wide economic loss due to motor vehicle crashes in 2010 reached $2,669,345,806?

In 2010, ADOT revealed that one person died every 11.50 hours or approximately 2.09 persons everyday and approximately 137.29 persons are injured due to motor vehicle crashes everyday. Meanwhile, they also revealed that the most common manner of crash and driver violation are rear-end and speeding, respectively.

Looking at the 2010 Crash Summary, we can only assume that there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to road traffic safety. Arizona has several existing traffic laws for all the road users to follow. However, referring back to the result of the crash summary, we can suggest that the implementation of these laws should become more rigid.

Mesa Crash on U.S. 60 Involves DPS Officer

According to the 2009 Arizona Crash facts, there were a total of 106,767 crashes in Arizona in 2009. In the entire U.S., motor vehicle crashes were found to be the leading cause of death among those aged 5-34. Every day, there are people being brought into emergency departments for treatment of injuries. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes are expected to be the third most serious threat to human health in the world by the year 2020.

In recent news, ABC15 reported a collision on the U.S. 60 at the Mesa Drive off ramp, which involved a DPS officer. Luckily, only minor injuries were found on those involved. The exit ramp was closed for a while to clear off the accident. The cause of the crash is still unknown, however, a picture taken by a photographer showed the DPS car appearing to have been rear-ended.

There are many reasons that could lead to a rear-end accident. One of the most common reasons is that a driver may have been distracted, leading him to not notice the car to his front slow down. Other reasons could possibly involve alcohol or drugs. Driving while fatigued or drowsy is also another reason what accidents happen on the road. When driving in Arizona, it is best to always focus attention on the road to avoid any accidents.

2 Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Accident on U.S. Highway 160 near Tuba City

Motorcycle crashes that result in deaths and injuries are an important public health concern, as there are currently more people who are choosing this mode of transportation. In the United States alone, there are about 6.2 million motorcycles that are registered. Each year, approximately 11% of all highway fatalities represent motorcycle fatalities.

In recent new, the Department of Public Safety in Arizona investigated a fatal collision on U.S. Highway 160 near Tuba City (ABC15 08/05/2011). The latest on the investigation was that there were 2 motorcycle riders, who were fatally injured after being hit by a pick-up truck.

One of the main reasons why riders are often killed or fatally injured in motorcycle crashes is that motorcycles provide virtually no protection for their riders or passengers. Therefore, it is the riders’ prerogative to protect themselves.

In Arizona, there is no Universal Helmet law, and lawmakers should do this in the State to prevent fatal injuries, since helmets provide the best protection there is for a rider. Other safety precautions that one can do while riding a motorcycle are the following:

  • Wear protective clothing while riding on a motorcycle, such as a long-sleeved top, pants, and shoes.
  • When riding, always follow the rule of the road and ride safely and on the correct lane.
  • Be watchful when in traffic; keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

If you or a loved one has been hit by another vehicle while riding in a motorcycle, you may call our Arizona Law Team for a free consultation at (480) 753-4534. We are Arizona motorcycle safety lawyers and we may be able to help.

Truck Driver Testifies on Fatal Arizona Motorcycle Accident

motorcycle-7483232.jpgAccidents involving motorcycles are sadly very common. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stated that motorcycle deaths and injuries have become an important public health concern. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that in 2009, motorcyclist deaths accounted for 13% of all motor vehicle crash deaths. Another vehicle is often involved in a motorcycle accident.

AZCentral recently reported about the trial of a truck driver who has been charged with killing 4 motorcyclists and injuring 5 others in 2010. At that time, police say that there was evidence of meth in his blood tests, as well as on the sobriety test given to him at the time of the accident. However, as he was taken to the witness stand, he had a different story. According to the truck driver, he did not take drugs at that time. Instead, he probably got that from some weight loss pills, which his roommate offered him to curb his appetite. He had recounted the events of the day and also said that the truck had problems with its brakes. The trial has been forwarded to the jury.

Driving while impaired poses a significantly dangerous situation not just to the driver, but to others as well. Impaired drivers have killed a lot of people over the years. It is estimated that a person dies every 48 minutes due to impaired drivers.

Multi-Vehicle Accident Injures 2 and Kills 1 in Mesa

Multi-vehicle accidents can happen anytime on the roads of Arizona. Most of the causes would be speeding, driving under the influence, and many more. The driver was found dead at the scene, unclear yet as to what caused his death, whether from his attack or whether from the injuries sustained during the crash. Two passengers of the Ford and Chevy also sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

40-Year-Old Man Dies in Loop 101 Rollover Accident

Arizona roadways are no strangers to fatal car accidents. From 2005 to 2009 the state had 5,288 cases of car accident deaths, making up about 3 percent of the country’s total for the same period (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System).

In recent news, a fatal accident has struck Loop 101 near U.S. 60 Friday afternoon after a vehicle rolled over and killed one person and temporarily closed northbound lanes (AZ Central 08/05/2011). Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the single-vehicle crash happened around 12:30 p.m.

The vehicle carrying seven people lost control and rolled over ejecting five of its passengers, leaving the two victims trapped inside and had to be extricated later on. Initial investigations reveal that a tire failure may have possibly contributed to the crash.

A 40-year-old man died in the accident and the rest of the passengers acquired serious but non-life threatening injuries.

All lanes were reopened after at least two hours.

Rollover accidents usually involve vehicles that travel at a high speed. Such crashes have a high fatality rate and certain vehicles such as SUVs are in theory more susceptible to rollovers than other types. To avoid getting into rollover accidents, always follow speed limits and completely avoid alcohol before driving. Also, avoid factors that may cause distraction while driving such as using your cell phone or listening to loud music.

Passenger Injured after Teen Driver Crashes into Garage in El Mirage

Impaired driving tops the list of factors causing fatal car crashes in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has that on the average nearly 30 people die in a car crash involving an alcohol-impaired driver daily. This is equivalent to one death for every 48 minutes. From the recent statistics revealed by NHTSA, car fatalities involving alcohol-impaired drivers reached to 10,839 or about 32 percent of the total traffic-related deaths in the country.

One of the most common terms we often hear when we talk about impaired driving is the BAC or Blood Alcohol Concentration. Despite the decreasing number of fatal crashes involving impaired drivers for the past several years, there are still some of us who do not have sufficient understanding of the so-called legal BAC level or the 0.08%.

0.08% BAC is the legal or allowable amount of alcohol in the human body. Any driver who has a BAC higher than 0.08% is considered to be alcohol-impaired. As of 2009, all 50 states and the District of Columbia has created a law that states that it is illegal per se to drive with a BAC of .08 or higher.

On Wednesday morning (08/03/11), a teenage boy crashed his car into a garage located near Dreyfus Drive and 129th Avenue around 5:30 a.m. The Arizona accident injured the passenger of the car who was later transported to a hospital.

Police said that the boy has been drinking when the accident happened.

In Arizona, laws have been passed in order to prevent traffic-related accidents, especially DUI crashes. It's up to us to do our part and follow these rules for our own safety.

If you have been a victim of alcohol-impaired driving and would like to seek compensation, we are available at (602) 457-6222 for a free consultation. Call now and an Arizona DUI accident victim lawyer will be with you shortly.

It is so fatal that it often results to injuries or even death among drivers, passengers and even pedestrians. There were about 6 million car accidents recorded in 2009 alone (NHTSA). Motor vehicles wrecks are the leading cause of death among those who belong to 5-34 age bracket in the United States. Young adults ages 18-24 have the highest number of fatalities due to impaired driving. In 2009, 9,813 reported cases of fatal crashes which involve alcohol-impaired drivers. Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that alcohol is a factor in 26 percent of the country's crash cost.

In Arizona, an alleged drunk driver in Phoenix caused the death of one person after a crash on the Interstate 17 off-ramp at Peoria Avenue.

Phoenix police revealed that the crash happened when one of the vehicles driven by a 45-year-old woman was travelling northbound and was hit by an SUV (7/20/11). The victim was taken to a local hospital where she later died due to her severe injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver was suspected to have displayed signs of impairment. Authorities also checked his blood-alcohol level and it revealed that it was 0.281, three times higher than the legal limit.

Casa Grande Rollover Crash Kills 1

Rollovers are recognized as serious accidents. The occupants in the rolled-over vehicle usually suffer serious injuries, or, they die. Studies have found that even if occupants were buckled up, they were still ejected from the vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rollover crashes accounted for 33% of all passenger vehicle fatalities; and that figure alone says a lot about rollover fatalities.

One person has been killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Casa Grande, causing in the eastbound roadway of the Interstate 10 to close (ABC15 07/16/2011).

A single-vehicle rollover is usually caused by many reasons, one of which could be speed. There are about 40% of fatal rollovers that happen due to excessive speeding. The NHTSA has said that this usually happens in places where the posted speed limit was 55 miles per hour or higher. The type of vehicle used is also a factor in rollovers. Although all types of vehicles are vulnerable to rolling over, the taller, narrower vehicles such as SUV’s, pick-up’s or vans are more susceptible to single-vehicle rollovers because of their higher centre of gravity.

Data from the NHTSA also show that 85% of all rollover fatalities are the result of single-vehicle crashes. This implies that during the accident, there were no other vehicles involved and that the majority of the cause of this type of rollovers is due to the driver’s mistake.

Child Injured in Glendale Crash

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of fatal child injuries in the U.S. In 2008 alone 968 victims of fatal crashes are 14 years old or younger and 168,000 more are victims of injury crashes1, numbers which show how big of a threat car accidents are to child safety.

In recent news an 11-year-old boy was struck by a truck Wednesday in Glendale (AZ Central 06/29/2011). According to Glendale Fire Department, the accident happened at 54th Avenue and Glenn Drive in downtown Glendale just before noon.

The boy was transported to a Children’s hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say no charges will be filed in the Glendale child injury accident.

As alarming as the figures sound, fatal injuries from motor vehicle crashes can still be prevented. CDC adds that in one year, 618,000 children ages 0-12 rode in vehicles without the use of a child safety seat or a seat belt at least some of the time. .

Furthermore, children 0-12 years old should be riding from the backseat where it is the safest during a crash. This also eliminates the risk of injuries that can be caused by triggered front seat airbags.

Most importantly, driving with precaution is the best way to help prevent child deaths from motor vehicle crashes. Observe proper speed limits and avoid alcohol when driving.

2 Injured in Phoenix Rollover Collision

Did you know that in 2009, there were 8,732 recorded rollover accidents in the United States? This is equivalent to 21.4 percent of the 40,840 vehicles involved in fatal crashes on that year. Light trucks have the highest number of recorded rollovers in 2009, which reached to more that 5,000 vehicles.

Rollover accidents are quite common to SUVs, trucks, and minivans. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 280,000 rollover accidents are reported each year, claiming more than 10,000 lives annually.

Vehicles can rollover due to excessive cornering speed, tripping, collision with another vehicle or object, or traversing a critical slope. Broken bones, severe head injuries, and paralysis are three serious injuries that can be sustained in a rollover accident.

On Friday evening, two people were extremely injured and in critical condition when a rollover drunk driving accident in Phoenix occurred last Friday on 35th Avenue under the Loop 101 underpass around 9 p.m. (7/22/11). Phoenix Police reported that the victims were a 30-year-old female and 35-year-old male. The two were traveling southbound in 35th street when their car collided with a Buick sedan. It was later found out that the driver of the Buick was impaired.

Recently, more and more Americans have become aware of the importance of seat belts. Seat belt use is the most effective way to save lives and reduce injuries in crashes. Unfortunately, the victims of the rollover collision last Friday were not wearing seat belts. This only shows that there are still more adult drivers and passengers who are not wearing seat belts on every trip.
