Mother and Son Injured in Gold Canyon Scooter Crash
Motorcycles or scooters are more vulnerable to accidents on the roads because they are much smaller than cars. Even though wearing protective gear is a must, like a helmet, the body is still mostly unprotected. According to Arizona Crash Facts during 2009, motorcycles hit by small trucks accounted for2,229 injuries and 26 deaths.
In recent news, a mother and son suffered serious road injuries and were taken to the hospital after their scooter was hit by a pickup truck in Gold Canyon, Arizona, Saturday morning. Reports say that the woman was riding along with her 8-year-old son in the Cloudview Avenue area and Mohican Road when the pickup truck hit them. The scooter was coming straight forward when the driver of the truck failed to yield while making a left turn in front of it, dragging the mother and son five feet away off the road.
In 2009, a total of 78/3,029 or 2.58% accounted for drivers who failed to yield right-of-way. When on the road using a motorcycle or scooter, always be careful and wear protective gear at all times. Be extra careful especially when riding with a child. The child’s safety is always a priority.
