Fire Engine Hit in Suspected Phoenix DUI Crash

A suspected drunk driving accident was reported in Phoenix Monday night after a vehicle crashed into a parked fire engine while emergency crews were responding to a fire at 26th Street and Thomas Road (ABC 15 09/06/2011).

According to report, members of the Phoenix Fire Department responded after a fire started on the second floor of what seemed to be a charter school. The situation was quickly placed under control and damage to the structure was minimal.

One of the fire engines was then hit by a slow moving vehicle driven by a person that was believed to be impaired. Only the car that hit the fire truck sustained damage and no one was reportedly hurt in the Phoenix drunk driving accident.

The suspect was detained by Phoenix Police.

Good control and vision are required in order to drive safely and effectively; two qualities which can easily deteriorate when alcohol is involved. We often hear warnings about drunk driving, but how dangerous really is it?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 22 percent of drivers involved in fatal car accidents exceeded the legal limit (.08 or greater) for blood alcohol content in 2009. Among the impaired drivers which were involved in fatal crashes, 72 percent or 7,281 died.

Imagine the lives that could have been saved if not for the failure of some to be responsible drivers. Help the fight against fatal road accidents by totally avoiding alcohol before driving; the life you save could be your own.
